About

Preserve. Celebrate. Inspire.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) is a non-profit organization that preserves the history of tennis and celebrates its champions to inspire excellence across generations globally. Each year, the ITHF presents the ultimate honor in tennis to deserving individuals – Hall of Fame induction. Since 1955, 270 (and counting) distinguished individuals representing 28 different countries have been honored with induction.

The ITHF is home to an extensive museum that chronicles the sport’s history from its origins to today through an impressive collection of memorabilia, art, fashion, photos, and videos. A recent renovation in 2024-2025 includes a new Hall of Famer Gallery and a Celebration Gallery highlighting the inspirational connections between generations of tennis greats. Additionally, the ITHF Museum’s Information Research Center, utilized by academic and media professionals, is a comprehensive tennis library containing more than two hundred years of historical documents, publications, photographs, and audio-visual materials. The International Tennis Hall of Fame is the first sports museum to become a Smithsonian Affiliate and was the first sports hall of fame and museum to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (in 2013, reaccredited in 2022).

The ITHF is located in Newport, Rhode Island, at the historic Newport Casino, a beautiful facility constructed in 1880 by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White. The impeccably preserved property was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The seven-acre property is also an active tennis facility featuring 13 grass tennis courts, an indoor tennis facility, and a clay court. The ITHF is also home to the National Tennis Club, a Court Tennis, or “Real Tennis” facility. All facilities are utilized regularly by club members and are also open for public play.
